Diaspora Connect is a service of the Labour Welfare Desk at the Embassy of Nepal in Tel Aviv. It lets Nepali workers in Israel keep their details on file with the Embassy and report problems (such as wage, permit or housing issues) through the mobile app, and lets authorised Embassy staff respond to them through the staff console. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Information we collect

  • Account details: your name, mobile phone number and, optionally, email address. Staff accounts also hold a work email and password.
  • Personal details: date of birth, gender, your address in Israel (district, city, neighbourhood, postal code) and an emergency contact's name, phone number, relationship and email.
  • Legal details: passport number and expiry date, Nepali citizenship number and Israeli ID number, and copies of documents you upload, such as your visa, work permit and photo.
  • Work details: your employment type, employer name and whether you live with your employer.
  • Issues you report: the category, employer, subject and description, any photos, recordings or files you attach, your messages with staff and, if you choose to share it, your location when you report.
  • Device information: device type, operating system and app version, and a push notification token so we can send you alerts.
  • Activity records: sign-ins and changes made to your information, kept for security and accountability.

How we use it

  • To verify your phone number and keep your account secure.
  • To let Embassy staff review, follow up and resolve the issues you report.
  • To send you updates on your issues, reminders before your documents expire, and Embassy and DoFE announcements, according to your notification settings.
  • To understand, in aggregate, the problems workers face so the Embassy can respond to them.

We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.

Who can see it

Your information is only available to authorised Embassy staff, and each staff member only sees what their role allows. We share it outside the Embassy only when needed to help with your case (for example with the relevant Israeli or Nepali authorities), when required by law, or with the service providers that run the service on our behalf:

  • SMS provider, to deliver verification codes and SMS alerts to your phone number.
  • Google Firebase, to deliver push notifications to your device.
  • Anthropic, whose AI assistant helps staff search and summarise issue records on the staff console. It is not used to make decisions about you.
  • Hosting and storage providers, where the service and your uploaded files are stored.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is active and for as long as needed to handle your issues and meet the Embassy's record-keeping obligations. Verification codes expire within minutes.

Keeping it safe

Information is sent over encrypted connections, uploaded files are only available through short-lived links, and staff access is limited by role and logged.

Your choices

  • You can view and update your details in the app at any time.
  • You can change which notifications you receive in the app's notification settings.
  • You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account by contacting us below.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
